Description of the panel One of the crucial problems of the social life in the Middle East in Modern Time is related to the correlation of ethnic and confessional factors which deeply affected the world outlook of peoples in this vast and historically significant region. Noticeable differences in the material and cultural development of various ethnical groups of the Middle Eastern society predetermined the complexity of interaction between these two factors. These distinctions became more obvious due to the progressing involvement of Middle Eastern countries into the global economy. This process affected in a negative way the established world view and the traditional way of life based on deep-rooted ethnic and religious traditions. The problems to be discussed in the panel are as follows:
10. Islamic world and changing notion of the definition of homeland. Moderators of the section: M.S. Meyer (Institute of Asian and African States, Lomonosov MSU, Moscow) and S.A. Kirillina (Institute of Asian and African States, Lomonosov MSU, Moscow). |
