Description of the panel The Muslim identity is a factor of a major impact on the political processes in Modern Muslim countries. The Islamic ideology, Islamic principles and Islamic spiritual values are declared to be the basics for social and political activities by many Islamic organizations – both moderate and extremist. The influence of the Muslim countries and interstate associations has also increased in the world politics. Panel is going to review how far in Muslim countries the Muslim identity is used by the local government structures to implement inner and international politics. One of the most admired subjects of the discussion is going to be the activities of various modern Islamist organizations been involved in system or off-system opposition to the governmental regime. Non-Muslim countries try to take advantage of Islam as a resource for strengthening their positions in the Muslim world by noticing attention to the Muslim citizens. Politics of the non-Muslim countries in the Muslim world is also going to be analyzed during a work of the panel. In their foreign activities Muslim countries give significant consideration to a problem of buildup of the Muslim solidarity and political power in the system of international relationship. This problem is also going to be dealt with in the panel discussion. The main attention is paid to the Muslim countries, which take up the central position in the Muslim World due to their economic potential and politic authority.
