The World of Islam 2007

Being initiated by the Mardjani Foundation in collaboration with the Center of Political Science and Anthropology of the Modern East and the Center of Iranian 

Being initiated by the Mardjani Foundation in collaboration with the Center of Political Science and Anthropology of the Modern East and the Center of Iranian Studies, the First International Professional Conference "The World of Islam: history, society & culture" took place in the Russian State University for the Humanities on December, 11 - 13, 2007.

It was considered as a professional international forum for the discussion of key methodological problems, theoretical and field research results in Islamic and Asian Studies and was aimed to focus on the modern cultural, social and political status of Islam and its institutions in different Eurasian societies from historical and anthropological perspectives.    

The conference was held within the following panels and roundtables:

• Research problems in studies on the Heritage of Classical Islam and History of the Islamic World (source studies, historiography, intellectual and political history)
• Islam in Russia and at the Eurasian frontier: imperial legacy and modern problems 
• Islam and politics in the modern world
• Islam in the non-Muslim world.
• Islamic economics:  tendencies and perspectives on development
• The Greater Near East and Islam in the 20^th  and 21^st  centuries

 

It brought together more than 100 scholars, representing Russian and foreign universities and institutes, educational and research centers.

Conference proceedings are published by the Mardjani Publishing House: The World of Islam: history, society & culture 2007, ISBN 978-5-903715-12-1.
