World of Islam, 2010 - Call for papers announcedThe Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) and the Mardjani Foundation for Research and Cultural Programs in cooperation with the Institute of Asian and African Studies of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography of the Russian Academy of Sciences (St. Petersburg) and the State Musum of Oriental Art (Moscow) are organizing the Second International Conference “THE WORLD OF ISLAM: HISTORY, SOCIETY, CULTURE”. As the First Conference of these series, held in Moscow by the Mardjani Foundation and the Russian State University for the Humanities in December 2007, the Second Conference purposes to bring together specialists in Islamic studies and scholars, whose research interests are related to this field. The Second Conference is held under the RUDN program of scholarly readings in honour of Prof. Arthur Sagadeev (the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia).

The descriptions of the panels will be available soon at the Mardjani Foundation website (www.mardjani.ru). Applications’ deadlines: The Organizing Committee starts accepting paper proposals. The working languages are Russian, English and Arabic. Paper proposals should be sent before July, 15 2010 not to the Organizing Committee, but directly to the panel conveners who are to inform participants whether they are accepted by August, 1 2010. This application consists of an abstract (up to 300 words in one of the working languages), name(s) of a presenter, academic degree and institutional affiliation, e-mail, Abstracts will be published at the webpage of the conference and will be distributed in a printed form among the participants during the Conference. A volume of Conference proceedings is planned to be published in the beginning of 2011.The authors whose proposals will be accepted should submit the full papers to panel moderator by the time of the Conference. A limited number of stipends are available for participants to help cover travel costs and other expenses associated with attending the conference. To apply for a stipend, please, contact the Organizing Committee. At the same time participants are strongly encouraged to seek for alternative sources of founding.
