Islamic Economic Model Nowadays by Renat I. BekkinIn the book the author studies the concept and origins of Islamic economy in great detail considering religious as well as expedient rationale for the ban on gharar (uncertainty), maysir (gambling) and riba (usury). Furthermore, the monograph presents a detailed analysis of prohibition of riba in Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
The author focuses on the analysis of Islamic financial istitutions by exploring how they are regulated in different Muslim countries. Understanding their potential, the author pays attention to tradition Islamic financial institutions such as taxes and waqf rather than focusing merely on contemorary institutions such as banks and insurance (takaful) companies. The monograph incorporates the aouthor's experience of participating in a number of projects for the implementation of Islamic economic principles in Russia. Bekkin (is D.Sc. in Economics, Ph.D. in Law, b. 1979 in Saint-Petersburg) is a lecturer at the Moscow State Institte of International Relations and an author of six books on Islamic economics and more that seventy scientific articles, including textbooks and collected monographs.
