ACADEMIC CONFERENCE “PHILOSOPHY AND VALUES OF ISLAMIC CULTURE” (READINGS IN HONOR OF PROF. ARTHUR SAGADEEV

 

An academic conference “Philosophy and Values of Islamic culture” (Readings in honor of Prof. Arthur Sagadeev) was held on April, 1-2, 2011 in Moscow’s Peoples Friendship University of Russia (PFUR).

  

The Conference was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of an outstanding Russian historian of Muslim philosophy Professor Arthur Vladimirovich Sagadeev (1931-1997).

  

Among the participants were scholars from the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Philosophy, PFUR and other universities.  Discussions were focused on several problems:

  • Muslim philosophy in the historical and cultural perspective;
  • Values of Muslim culture at the context of cultural diversity;
  • Humanistic values of classical Islamic culture;
  • Islamic civilization in contemporary dialogue of civilization;
  • Methodological problems of translation of philosophical texts.

 

Conference was held by the faculty of humanities and social sciences of PFUR in association with the Educational Center for    Comparative Philosophy of PFUR and were a part of international program “Dialogue of Civilisations: East an West”.
