International Scientific Conference “Islamic text and Arabic graphical tradition”

The International Scientific Conference “Islamic text and Arabic graphical tradition” will be held in Bakhchisarai (Crimea, Ukraine) on 20 – 22 September, 2011. The Conference is organized by the Bakhchisarai Cultural and Historic Preserve and the Mardjani Foundation. There will be 3 working sections:

 

  1. Section 1: Arabic graphics and languages of Islam (Islam and non-Arabic graphical systems; graphical specifics of recognition of foreign words in Arabic graphical texts).
  2. Section 2: Arabic graphical epigraphy and methods of presentation of information in Islamic textual tradition (epigraphy and the emergence of the Islamic textual tradition; epigraphic text surrounded by historiography; Arabic graphical epigraphy and its local versions).
  3. Section 3: Traditional Arabic cartography: map as a narrative source (relation between narration and visualization).

 

The Conference will be attended by participants from Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tyumen, Makhachkala), Ukraine (Simferopol, Bakhchisarai), Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Austria, Netherlands and Uzbekistan. All scholars represent various scientific organizations such as: Mardjani Foundation, Bekhchisarai Cultural and Historic Preserve, Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, State University of Dagestan, Dagestan Science Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, State Museum of Oriental art, Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian State University for the Humanities.

 

During the work of the Conference on 21 September there will be open an exposition called “Tatar Shamail from the collection of the Mardjani Foundation”. It will be available to the public at the Zincirli medrese building.
