Vlamidir Bobrovnikov’s lecture “Arabic calligraphy in the service of the Russian empire’s policy in the Caucasus”

Lecture “Arabic calligraphy in the service of the Russian empire’s policy in the Caucasus” was held on 8th September, 2011 at the “Inzhir” Gallery.  The audience had an opportunity to get acquainted with letters, documents and spiral texts from Dagestan, 1860 – 1927, as well as other pre-revolutionary documents from the North Caucasus region written in Arabic language.

 

The lecturer – Vladimir Bobrovnikov – is a head of program for studying Muslim societies in Russia and on the post-Soviet area, Ph.D. in History. He told about the results of studying aforementioned documents in public record offices and private archives during the last 20 years. He also focused on principles of Orientalistic analyses and subjects of these sources, and scientific approaches towards it.
